Quail for Tick Control
I was watching a rather harrowing video about the possible origins of Lyme Disease and suddenly wondered if encouraging the presence of wildlife would help with tick control.
It seems a lot of different birds eat ticks, including domestic chickens, ducks, and turkeys. But quail are contenders for the title and may be the ones most desirable to coax into hanging around suburban and rural areas.
While it's certainly important to repel ticks -naturally and in non-toxic ways whenever possible, I am happy there are natural tick predators that can be help rid an infested area of these horrific little disease vectors.
To attract quail to your yard, you can just scatter millet and cracked corn directly on the ground or install some low platform feeders. Growing sunflowers will also attract quail, along with lots of other birds.

When hunting for ticks, they will stick their heads into tall grass or bushes and pluck the offending bugs from leaves. Due to their abilities, they can greatly reduce the number of ticks in a yard or field.
